"Who is your daddy and what does he do?"

Opening thoughts: Kindergarten Cop, great movie. Today's studying of econometrics went a lot better, so I'm feeling better about Thursday's test. Add 3 7-minute miles, with the last being under 7 with a good night's sleep, today was a good day. Acutally, all of my days are usually good ones, so this one was better than good.

Let's talk basketball:

  • St. Joe's 71, George Washington 56. In their first game without John Bryant, the Hawks played inspired basketball, clinching the overall Atlantic 10 regular season title and putting the Colonials back on the bubble and back into a tie for 1st with Dayton in the A-10 West. Pat Carroll led the way with 21, while the Colonials struggled at home, only shooting 39%.
  • Clemson 66, Virginia Tech 64. A last second dunk may have knocked the Hokies out of the NCAAs while putting Clemson in the NIT. The Hokies are now 7-8 in the ACC, making this weekend's game vs. Maryland a true elimination game for both teams. Since their win against Duke, the Hokies have not played with the same toughness, evidenced by getting outrebounded 44-32 (19-6 offensively).
  • Mississippi St. 57, Arkansas 55. With 3 wins in a row, the Bulldogs are playing themselves back into the NCAAs, getting a nice road win in Fayetteville. Lawrence Roberts led the way for MSU in this defensive struggle, getting 13 points and 10 boards, as neither team shot better than 36%. That's fine with MSU, now 9-6 in the SEC.
  • Wisconsin 62, Indiana 60. Despite coming back from 10 down in the last 10 minutes, the Hoosiers fell victim to an Alando Tucker putback at the buzzer at the Kohl Center. I must say, there were some very questionable calls that went against Indiana at the end of the game. But, in retrospect, Wisconsin missed a lot of free throws they usually make, keeping IU's comeback going. IU must win at home vs. Northwestern, and win at least 1 game in the Big 10 tourney, most likely 2 since they have no quality road wins, to get in. Mike Wilkinson was his usual self, getting 28 points and 9 rebounds, most coming in the 1st half. DON'T FIRE MIKE DAVIS!!!! I really like how IU's playing, how they scrap for every loose ball and the way they play hard on every possession. I'm rooting for them to get in.
Now, for our first MARCH MADNESS UPDATE!!!
  • Big South Tournament. Liberty and UNC-Asheville, the 2 and 3 seeds respectively both went down in the 1st round while top seed Winthrop rolled to a comfortable win.
  • Horizon League. No upsets in the 1st round, the top 6 seeds have advanced to Milwaukee, with 6 v 3, 5 v 4 Friday.
  • Ohio Valley Conference. A couple of mild upsets taking place tonight. Conference stalwart Murray St. and Samford, the 3 and 4 seeds respectively lost in the 1st round. Tennessee Tech is the top seed here.
I didn't get to watch the season premiere of The Amazing Race, but as I understand, Miami's own Director of Judicial Affairs Susan Vaughn and her son came in 2nd tonight, so of course, I'll be pulling for them!!!!

I think that's it, gotta get to bed.
