Another Theme Night
Tonight, let's talk TV shows, and in chronological order. Yes, even back to the beginning.
Sesame Street. Bert and Ernie were probably my favorites, along with Cookie Monster. I was also a fan of the news and all the stuff falling on the reporter's head, I forget his name. Super Grover was annoying (sorry Grover fans).
Muppet Show. Once I get a job, I am buying Muppet Show season DVDs. When my dad coached football and had a road game, my mom and I had spaghetti for dinner and watched the Muppet Show. The random musical acts, the great guest stars, and of course, Waldorf and Statler's commentary.
Scooby-Doo. I don't sleep with it anymore, but I have a Scooby-Doo stuffed animal. The best were the Scooby-Doo hours with the Harlem Globetrotters and Don Knotts among others.
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. The perfect show for me. I love Geography, add in a little Rockapella and I was watching PBS weekdays at 5pm. I would've owned that show if I would've gotten on.
Inspector Gadget. Go Gadget Go, Metro City, Dr. Claw, who still never revealed his face. Sadly, the voice of Gadget, Don Adams, died recently.
In addition, remember Pro Stars with Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, and Wayne Gretzky? Fun House that was a game show and people had to do weird things. Double Dare, "Harvey, tell them what they'll win?" How about G.U.T.S with Moira, the referee. Or C.O.P.S?? Bulletproof was the leader and there were a bunch of officers. That show needs to come back.
ABC's TGIF. It began with Perfect Strangers, then came Full House. Next, my all-time favorite Family Matters. I was Steve Urkel for Halloween once and people loved it. Yup, I had the big glasses, suspenders and big shoes. Carl Winslow was and still is hilarious. And how about Waldo Geraldo Faldo?!?!? Step by Step was good and so was Hangin with Mr. Cooper, but nothing topped Family Matters.
The Wonder Years. I hope this show comes back into syndication because I was still too young to really understand it. The 60s would've been an interesting decade to live in. Now, I believe Vietnam was a mistake, but would I have thought that at the time??? Would I have gone to Vietnam???
Small Wonder. Yes, I watched the show with the robot daughter. It had the dorkiest theme song though. But it was a good show. Jamie was such a brat.
"What's your system, do you compare team stats, home field advantage, weather. No, we bet on the city with the ugliest women. Wouldn't you be meaner if you came from a city with ugly women."
Win Ben Stein's Money. The nerdy Ben Stein and the up and coming Jimmy Kimmel. The category titles were the best, Jimmy wrote his best material then.
There is also The Cosby Show, Cheers, Who's The Boss, ALF, Growing Pains, Head of the Class, Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Fresh Prince that fall into this category.
I talk about The Amazing Race and The Apprentice enough, so onto the sports shows.
Sportscenter. The Big Show with Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann. Craig Kilborn: "Jumanji", Kenny Mayne: "It's never iffy if its Griffey", Scott Van Pelt, John Anderson, and all the others. Old school Plays of the Week (cue hockey horn). And those famous words: Da Na Na, Da Na Na.
College Gameday. Who knew a show that featured an old crazy guy putting on mascots' heads would become so big. Fowler and Herbstreit bring the knowledge, Corso brings the entertainment. The best way to start a Saturday Morning.
NFL Primetime. Chris Berman doing highlights for an hour. Perfect way to end the weekend.
Alright, that's all the TV shows I have for now. If you'd like to make the case for a show that wasn't listed, you know where to reach me.
Tomorrow night, Miami football is back in action at Northern Illinois. This game should be high scoring as both teams have a lackluster defense. The key to the game will be Northern's O-line vs. Miami's D-line. If Miami's undersized D-line can hold their own, Northern will be forced to throw, which Miami wants. Miami's offense needs to score touchdowns in the Red Zone, not settle for field goals. Tomorrow night, take a break from playoff baseball and watch the Hawks and the Huskies, 7:30PM, ESPN2.
Let's Go Redhawks!!!!

excellent TV round-up, I was a big fan of a number of those as well..
One thing though, didn't you hate it when stupid kids made it to the map round, drew the USA!!!!!!!! and still didn't know where Florida was??????? It always made me pull my hair out because I could have easily won the trip to anywhere in the Continental US!!!

in the first half NIU looked more like USC against that porus Redhawk defense... the shaky looking Betts couldn't counter the 500+ yards his D was giving up, but that early TD had to briefly give you hope.
